NIKO AND BETSY WATTS ORMOND ’98

When it came time for Betsy Watts Ormond ‘98 and her husband, Niko, to enroll their children in school, there was no question that they would be Hornets. However, the positive experiences Watts ‘30 and William ’33 enjoy in the classroom and beyond inspired the couple to support the Investing in Excellence capital campaign.

“SCDS is a very special school in that it provides students and their families an unparalleled educational experience in Savannah,” Niko says. “There are a variety of classes, activities and experiences that can’t be found at any other school locally.”

Believing that important life lessons can be learned in the classroom as well as on the athletic field, the Ormonds generously named a new locker room that will be part of the future renovation of the existing athletic facilities.

“Contributing to the Invest in Excellence capital campaign is not just investing in the school, but it’s making an investment in your children, their teachers and the community.”

“Through sports, there are a variety of life skills which are learned, including working well with others, planning, strategy, organization as well as problem-solving,” Betsy says. “Ultimately, the locker rooms are where student-athletes are planning and preparing for their upcoming games as well as reflecting on their personal performance and outcome of the game.”

Betsy and Niko hope the planned athletic expansion will motivate current parents to continue to support student-athletes and encourage new families to join them at Country Day, a place they consider to be a significant part of their family’s foundation.

“It’s important for our family — as well as others — to give to the Investing in Excellence campaign, as doing so has a direct impact on our children and our community,” Niko says. “Everyone wins by continuing to invest in our school.”
